Anonymous is an international group known for cyber attacks against governments, institutions and corporations, acting in instances where they believe police forces are either insufficient or are covering up crime. Today, the most popular use of the word is most likely the hacktivist group calling themselves Anonymous. Louisa May Alcott wrote under a male pseudonym in order to get her gothic stories published, since such a genre was deemed unfit for ladies. Joanne Rowling was encouraged to publish under only her initials - J.K Rowling - as her publishers felt that an audience of young boys may not want to read a work written by a woman.
It was common for female writers a few decades ago to work under male pseudonyms in order to get work published - for example, Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Bronte all had male pseudonyms as they were afraid of the prejudice they'd face at being female authors. Sometimes to be anonymous, people will not only withhold their real name, but will provide a fake name (or a pseudonym) as well. Generally if someone is anonymous, it is purposeful (rather than because they forgot to put their name on a document) and designed to hide or confuse their identity and location for safety reasons. To be anonymous means to be unknown - whether that's because your identity is hidden, because you have no identifying traits, or because you lack a name entirely. People with the skills and know-how will be able to reverse this effect to some degree, so please don't rely on it for an actual vocal.
